BLC to Host a Free Seminar Entitled “Creating Fundable Startups” at the Maui Research & Technology Center on June 10, 2014

BLC is partnering with the Maui Economic Development Board to host a free seminar entitled “Creating Fundable Startups” at the Maui Research & Technology Center onTuesday, June 24, 2014. This seminar is a pilot for a planned series of conferences on other islands and underserved areas.  A distinguished group of corporate, securities and tax lawyers from leading Honolulu law firms, including Cades Schutte LLP, Goodsill, Anderson, Quinn & Stifel LLP, and McCorriston Miller Mukai MacKinnon LLP, will lead a two-hour seminar, from10am-noon, discussing the legal and business issues that arise when starting and growing an emerging growth company, and how to attract venture capital investors and other important sources of financing.  Topics covered will include corporate formation and governance, angel investments (both equity and debt), venture capital financing, protection of intellectual property, securities laws compliance, tax considerations, and crowdfunding. Following the presentation, from 1-3pm, the attorneys will offer one-on-one sessions with entrepreneurs to answer their legal questions. “We want to reach out to startups on the other islands to help them avoid mistakes and to accelerate their success,” said Cat Taschner, Vice President and Co-Founder of BLC.  She added, “there are many exciting startups being launched outside of Honolulu, and we want to make sure they get the support they need and deserve.  For more information on this seminar and to register, please see  The seminar and one-on-one sessions are open to the public.
